Information, not professional advice
Well & Field publishes general information for homeowners. It is not a substitute for advice from your local health department, a licensed well contractor, a septic professional, a certified laboratory or a doctor, who can assess your specific situation. Rules for wells and septic systems vary by state and county: always check the requirements where you live.
We work hard to keep every guide accurate and up to date, and we cite our sources so you can check them. Even so, agencies change their advice and mistakes happen. You use the information and calculators at your own risk, and, to the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for decisions made on the basis of them.
Calculators
Our calculators give estimates based on published tables and formulas, which each tool page explains. They can't account for every well, tank or household. Treat their results as a starting point, not as instructions.
Links, ads and affiliate links
We link to other websites, mostly government and university pages, but we don't control their content. If the site shows advertising or affiliate links, they will be labeled. An affiliate link means we may earn a commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you. It never changes what we recommend.
